Economics of Monetary Union

Economics of Monetary Union
By:Paul De Grauwe
Published on 2012-05-31 by Oxford University Press

The ninth edition of Economics of Monetary Union provides a concise analysis of the theories and policies relating to monetary union. The author analyses both the costs and benefits associated with having one currency, as well as the practical workings and current issues with the Euro. In Part One the author examines the implications of adopting a common currency; assessing the countries benefit from being in the Eurozone members, while also questioning whether other parts of the world would gain from monetary unification. Part Two of the book looks at the problems of running a monetary union by analysing Europe's experience and the issues faced by the European Central Bank. Review comments: 'As a book that focuses on the Economics of the EMU, it is literally and metaphorically without competition and thus beyond compare'. Professor Rob Ackrill, Nottingham Trent University 'I think it is the best in the field.' Dr Matteo Iannizzotto, Durham University 'It is clearly the leading textbook for lecturers teaching modules in European Integration and a key reference for students and researchers.' Economics of Knowledge

Economics of Knowledge
By:Dominique Foray
Published on 2004 by MIT Press

With a farm of pigs as his abacus, Arthur Geisert uses elements of a search and count game to bring Roman numerals to life in this unintimidating math-concept book. First, the seven Roman numerals are equated with the correct number of piglets. Then the reader may practice counting other items—hot-air balloons, gopher holes, and more—as the remarkable adventure unfolds. (And yes, there are one thousand pigs in the etching for M!)

Capitalism without Capital

Capitalism without Capital
By:Jonathan Haskel,Stian Westlake
Published on 2017-11-07 by Princeton University Press

The first comprehensive account of the growing dominance of the intangible economy Early in the twenty-first century, a quiet revolution occurred. For the first time, the major developed economies began to invest more in intangible assets, like design, branding, R&D, and software, than in tangible assets, like machinery, buildings, and computers. For all sorts of businesses, from tech firms and pharma companies to coffee shops and gyms, the ability to deploy assets that one can neither see nor touch is increasingly the main source of long-term success. But this is not just a familiar story of the so-called new economy. Capitalism without Capital shows that the growing importance of intangible assets has also played a role in some of the big economic changes of the last decade. The rise of intangible investment is, Jonathan Haskel and Stian Westlake argue, an underappreciated cause of phenomena from economic inequality to stagnating productivity. Haskel and Westlake bring together a decade of research on how to measure intangible investment and its impact on national accounts, showing the amount different countries invest in intangibles, how this has changed over time, and the latest thinking on how to assess this. They explore the unusual economic characteristics of intangible investment, and discuss how these features make an intangible-rich economy fundamentally different from one based on tangibles. Capitalism without Capital concludes by presenting three possible scenarios for what the future of an intangible world might be like, and by outlining how managers, investors, and policymakers can exploit the characteristics of an intangible age to grow their businesses, portfolios, and economies.

Economics and Ethics 1

Economics and Ethics 1
By:Wilhelm E. Krelle
Published on 2003-06-18 by Springer Science & Business Media

A presentation of the basic models of the most important economic agents (households, firms, the banking system etc.). The influence of ethics on the decisions of persons is discussed within the context of mutual influences of one person on another. It is shown that this leads to a Markov chain which converges to a final situation which in many cases is independent of the initial conditions. The book helps the reader to understand the interdependence of humanities and economics and how to model this interdependence in economics.
